The Island in the Sky mesa rests on sheer sandstone cliffs over 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain. Every overlook offers a different perspective on Canyonlands' spectacular landscape. The Island is the easiest district to visit in a short period of time, offering many pullouts with spectacular views along the paved scenic drive. Hiking trails and four-wheel-drive roads access backcountry areas for day or overnight trips.

My goal is to create Fine Art Photographs. Fine Art Photographs are both technically excellent and artistically and emotionally inspired. When I take a photograph, I choose the best available composition and lighting. I control camera settings and which lens and other equipment to use. The camera records the scene. This is the beginning. For me, my creativity starts after the image is captured. I make changes to elements such as color, tonality, saturation. I might change the composition or remove unwanted items from the image. I may spend hours working on a photograph until the resulting image is an artistic representation of what inspired me to take the photograph.
